Rebecca's Keynote Talks on Stress for Students, Schools, & Community Leaders
Introduction
In today's super-stressed world, it is hard
for teenagers to cope with the pressure. Stress leaks out into violent outbursts,
broken relationships,
drinking, drug use,
aggression, inability to concentrate or perform at school or work,
reckless driving, cutting, inappropriate sexual activity, hazing, hate crimes--and
tragically--sometimes even gun violence and school shootings.
High-level stress leads to poor health, addictions, depression, low self-esteem,
emotional problems, and suicide. Young people cope as best they can. Unfortunately,
poor choices often hurt their
health, grades, work, relationships, financial situation, and future success.

TALK DESCRIPTIONS
Rebecca Radcliffe's uplifting
and hopeful talk, About to Burst:
Helping Teens Cope
With Stress,
gives young audiences an insightful perspective on stress and how to deal with
it in their lives.
Based on her timely and helpful book, About to Burst: Handling Stress & Ending
Violence,
Rebecca offers teens a simple and practical way to deal with stress as they enter
the adult world. By learning to effectively handle stress, young people find
relief before they reach the
breaking point and do something that can harm themselves or others. Teachers,
counselors, administrators, parents, and principals can easily
build on this presentation to reinforce a positive school culture and help prevent
tragedy.
Help! I'm Swimming in Stress & Kicking Like Crazy! In this fast-paced world, it is not only kids who feel stress! Teachers, administrators, professionals, and adults feel buried under increasing responsibilities with ever-tightening budgets. This is a formula for fatigue, frustration, and stress-related problems. Rebecca Radcliffe's light-hearted, playful, and practical look at the stress in our adult personal and professional lives--and what we can do about it--provides welcome relief. Rebecca offers a simple approach to handle stress and find balance in a demanding world. By practicing effective stress management, we feel better, have more energy and patience, and model good choices for the young people's lives we touch.
In Boys Will Be Boys & Girls Will Be Girls: Understanding Stress Factors From a Developmental Perspective, Rebecca Radcliffe takes a powerful look at the inner lives of boys and girls and how adults and professionals can help provide support. Rebecca explores our current understanding of the development of young males and females and summarizes useful "take-away" recommendations. Becoming aware of biological, psychological, sociocultural, and behavioral models gives us clues to help support young people's deepest needs and prevent destructive patterns and the loss of hope and life itself.
Ribbons of Hope: Seeking Wisdom, Walking Through Storms When tragedies occur in communities and schools, students, families, teachers, and neighbors need to rebuild their sense of hope. Rebecca presents a gentle, compassionate, and supportive talk to help understand life challenges and find the will to grow again. Because our young people's talents and creativity will shape the future, it is essential that teens have a sense of hope, excitement and willingness to dream in spite of life's ups and downs. Adults, too, must maintain a vital, energetic, and hopeful perspective to help them through longer and more stressful lives. Rebecca's gift for finding the silver lining helps spark a sense of optimism and hope for the future and our ability to make a better world.
